A classic Italian dessert with layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and creamy mascarpone filling, perfect for special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 1/4 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 24 ladyfinger cookies
  • Cocoa powder for dusting

Instructions

  1. Whisk the egg yolks and sugar until pale and creamy.
  2. Heat the milk in a saucepan until just simmering, then gradually add to the egg mixture, whisking constantly. Cook over low heat until thickened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
  4. Beat the heavy cream in a separate bowl until soft peaks form, then fold in the mascarpone cheese until smooth.
  5. Combine the coffee and coffee liqueur in a shallow dish. Quickly dip the ladyfingers in the coffee mixture and layer them in a dish.
  6. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
  7. Repeat layers, finishing with the mascarpone mixture.
  8. Chill for at least 240 minutes or overnight.
  9. Dust with cocoa powder before serving.

Notes

Use strong brewed coffee for the best flavor. Chill overnight for enhanced flavors.
