6 egg yolks
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2/3 cup milk
1 1/4 cups heavy cream
1 cup mascarpone cheese
1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
1/4 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
24 ladyfinger cookies
Cocoa powder for dusting
Instructions
Whisk the egg yolks and sugar until pale and creamy.
Heat the milk in a saucepan until just simmering, then gradually add to the egg mixture, whisking constantly. Cook over low heat until thickened, about 5 minutes.
Remove from heat and allow to cool.
Beat the heavy cream in a separate bowl until soft peaks form, then fold in the mascarpone cheese until smooth.
Combine the coffee and coffee liqueur in a shallow dish. Quickly dip the ladyfingers in the coffee mixture and layer them in a dish.
Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
Repeat layers, finishing with the mascarpone mixture.
Chill for at least 240 minutes or overnight.
Dust with cocoa powder before serving.
