A rich chocolate cake topped with gooey caramel and crunchy pecans, perfect for any celebration.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour a large sheet pan.
  3. Mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  4. Pour in the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
  5. Carefully stir in the boiling water until well combined.
  6. Pour the cake batter into the prepared pan.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Let the cake cool in the pan for a little while.
  9. Drizzle warm caramel sauce over the top and sprinkle with chopped pecans.

Notes

For a richer chocolate flavor, consider adding a teaspoon of espresso powder to the batter.
