Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a large baking sheet.
  2. Combine the flour, sugar, salt, and baking soda in a large bowl.
  3. Prepare the cocoa mixture by boiling the butter and water in a saucepan. Remove from heat and stir in the cocoa powder until well combined.
  4. Mix the cocoa mixture with the dry ingredients until well blended.
  5. Add the sour cream, eggs, and vanilla to the bowl, mixing until smooth and creamy.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting it with your favorite chocolate icing.

Notes

Pairs well with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
