Delicious and comforting Swedish meatballs coated in a creamy sauce, perfect for family gatherings or a cozy dinner.

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

Instructions

  1. Combine the meats and fillings: In a bowl, mix ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, milk, onion, egg, salt, pepper, and nutmeg until well combined.
  2. Shape the meatballs: Shape the mixture into small meatballs, about 1-inch in diameter.
  3. Brown the meatballs: In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat and brown the meatballs on all sides until golden.
  4. Set the meatballs aside: Remove meatballs and set aside on a plate.
  5. Make the roux: In the same skillet, add flour and stir for 1 minute.
  6. Add broth and cream: Gradually add beef broth, simmer, then stir in heavy cream and soy sauce.
  7. Reintroduce the meatballs: Return meatballs to skillet and simmer for about 10 minutes until cooked through.
  8. Serve warm: Serve the meatballs with the creamy sauce over noodles or potatoes.

Notes

Leftover meatballs can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or frozen for up to 3 months. Reheat on the stovetop.
