  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy cream

  2. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  3. Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
  4. Cut in the softened butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Stir in the milk and vanilla until just combined.
  6. Turn the dough onto a floured surface, knead gently, and roll it out to 1-inch thickness. Cut into rounds.
  7. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form.
  9. Assemble by slicing the baked shortcakes in half, layering with strawberries and whipped cream.

Notes

For best results, let the strawberries marinate and avoid overworking the dough.
