  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Whipped cream for serving

Instructions

  1. Macerate the strawberries by combining them with sugar and letting them sit for 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in heavy cream and vanilla extract until just combined.
  5. Knead the dough gently, roll it out, and cut into rounds.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Assemble by layering shortcakes with strawberries and whipped cream.
