Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds pork shoulder
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 orange, juiced
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Sear the pork shoulder on all sides until browned, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  2. Prepare the spice mixture by combining the chopped onion, minced garlic, cumin, oregano, chili powder, orange juice, lime juice, salt, and pepper in a slow cooker.
  3. Coat the seared pork shoulder in the slow cooker with the spice mixture.
  4. Slow cook on low for 6-8 hours, or until the pork is tender and easy to shred.
  5. Shred the pork using two forks and return it to the slow cooker to absorb the juices.
  6. Serve the flavorful carnitas in warm tortillas and garnish with fresh cilantro.
