A tender and flavorful slow cooker carnitas recipe, perfect for tacos, burritos, or on its own.

Ingredients

  • 34 pounds pork shoulder
  • 1 orange, juiced
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 bay leaf
  • water (as needed)

Instructions

  1. Place the pork shoulder in your slow cooker.
  2. Mix the fresh orange juice, lime juice, chopped onion, minced garlic, ground cumin, chili powder, oregano, salt, and black pepper in a bowl.
  3. Pour this vibrant mixture over the pork.
  4. Add the bay leaf and enough water to cover the meat.
  5. Set your slow cooker to low for 8-10 hours or high for 4-6 hours.
  6. Shred the pork using two forks after cooking.
  7. Mix the shredded pork with all the delicious juices in the slow cooker.

Notes

Leftover carnitas can be stored in an airtight container for up to 4 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
