Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for caramel)
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter (for caramel)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (for caramel)
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt (for caramel)
  • 1 cup pretzel pieces
  • 1/4 cup coarse sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. Whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth and creamy.
  3. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until fluffy.
  4. Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl, then gradually add to the wet ingredients.
  5. Fold in the pretzel pieces, reserving some for topping.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden and a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.
  8. Prepare the salted caramel by heating granulated sugar in a saucepan, stirring until it melts and turns amber.
  9. Whisk in butter and heavy cream until smooth, and stir in sea salt.
  10. Drizzle the caramel over the baked blondies and sprinkle with pretzel pieces and additional sea salt.
  11. Cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.

Notes

For best results, use a candy thermometer when making the caramel and avoid overmixing the batter.
