  • 1 cup buttermilk, at room temperature
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  3. Sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
  4. Mix the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and white vinegar.
  5. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, mixing until smooth.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes.
  8. Cool the cakes in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
