Tender and flavorful pork carnitas, perfect for tacos or burritos, infused with spices and citrus.

Ingredients

  • 4 pounds pork shoulder
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 1 cup chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. Rub the pork shoulder generously with salt, black pepper, cumin, and chili powder.
  3. Place the seasoned pork in a large Dutch oven or roasting pan.
  4. Add the quartered onion, minced garlic, and bay leaves.
  5. Pour in the orange juice, lime juice, and chicken broth.
  6. Cover the pot and bake for about 3 to 4 hours.
  7. Remove the pot from the oven and let it cool slightly.
  8. Shred the pork into juicy pieces using two forks.
  9. Return the shredded pork back to the pot with the juices.
  10. Spread the shredded pork onto a baking sheet and broil for a few minutes until crispy.
  11. Serve in warm tortillas or burritos with your favorite toppings.

Notes

For added crispiness, broil the shredded pork briefly before serving.
