A delightful Japanese fusion of an omelet and fried rice, topped with sweet and tangy ketchup.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked rice
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • 1/2 cup cooked chicken or ham, diced
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Chopped green onions, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Sauté the onions in a skillet with vegetable oil until translucent.
  2. Heat the proteins by adding the cooked chicken or ham and stir until heated through.
  3. Mix in cooked rice, ketchup, soy sauce, salt, and pepper; cook for about 5 minutes.
  4. Beat the eggs with a pinch of salt in a bowl for fluffiness.
  5. Cook the omelet in the same skillet, swirling to cover the bottom.
  6. Set the edges until the center is slightly runny.
  7. Assemble the Omurice by placing the rice mixture in the center of the omelet and fold the sides over.
  8. Garnish and serve on a plate with extra ketchup on the side.

Notes

Experiment with different proteins and vegetables for a tailored dish. Can be made vegan with tofu and veggie broth.
