These Molasses Crackle Cookies are warm, chewy treats filled with rich molasses and spices, perfect for the holiday season.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar for rolling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking soda, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, ground cloves, and salt.
  3. Cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until smooth.
  4. Add the molasses and egg to the butter mixture.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ones.
  6. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  7. Once chilled, roll the dough into small balls.
  8. Roll each dough ball in granulated sugar.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes.
  10. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Ideal with a cup of spiced chai or milk. Store in an airtight container for up to a week or freeze for up to three months.
