  • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 1/4 cup melted butter

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup strawberry or raspberry jam
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional)
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for sprinkling)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Activate your yeast: In a large bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix in the wet ingredients: Add melted butter, egg, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix thoroughly until combined.
  3. Create the dough: Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough starts to form.
  4. Knead for perfection: Knead the dough for 6 to 8 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  6. Press and shape: Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan and press the dough gently into it, spreading it evenly.
  7. Dimple the dough: Use your fingers to poke dimples evenly across the surface of the dough, creating little pockets for the jam.
  8. Add the jam: Spoon small dollops of jam into the dimples you’ve made and swirl lightly with a toothpick for a delightful pattern.
  9. Second rise: Cover and allow the dough to rest for 20 minutes for a second rise.
  10. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare for some baking magic.
