A wholesome and delicious Honey Wheat Bread recipe that balances nutritious whole wheat flour and light all-purpose flour, sweetened with honey.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. Activate your yeast: In a bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Sweeten the mixture: Add honey and olive oil to the yeast mixture, stirring gently to combine.
  3. Combine the dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, and salt.
  4. Form the dough: Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and stir until a dough forms.
  5. Knead the dough: Transfer your dough to a floured surface and knead it for about 10 minutes.
  6. First rise: Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise for 1 hour in a warm place.
  7. Shape the loaf: Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release air bubbles and shape it into a loaf.
  8. Second rise: Place the loaf in a greased pan and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Bake to perfection: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the loaf for 30-35 minutes.
  10. Cool before slicing: Let your bread cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

Keep your bread fresh by wrapping it in plastic wrap or storing it in a bread box. For longer storage, slice and freeze.
