A delightful Mediterranean dessert featuring layers of flaky phyllo dough filled with a rich mixture of walnuts, honey, and spices, perfect for celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 1 package phyllo dough
  • 2 cups chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine the chopped walnuts, granulated sugar, and cinnamon.
  3. Unroll the phyllo dough and cover it with a damp cloth.
  4. Brush melted butter in a baking dish.
  5. Lay down 2 sheets of phyllo dough in the baking dish.
  6. Sprinkle a layer of the walnut mixture on top of the phyllo.
  7. Continue alternating layers of phyllo and the walnut mixture until you’ve used up all the ingredients.
  8. Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into desired shapes.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes.
  10. Combine the water, honey, and vanilla in a saucepan to prepare the syrup.
  11. Once the baklava has finished baking, pour the hot syrup over it.

Notes

Keep the phyllo covered with a damp cloth to prevent drying. Allow the syrup to soak in after baking for optimal texture.
