Delicious, fluffy beignets reminiscent of New Orleans café delights, perfect for brunch or cozy mornings at home.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Combine dry ingredients in a bowl: flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Whisk the wet ingredients in another bowl: milk, egg, and melted butter.
  3. Form the dough by combining wet and dry ingredients until soft.
  4. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to 1/4 inch thick.
  5. Cut the rolled-out dough into squares or rectangles.
  6. Heat the oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep fryer or large pot.
  7. Fry the dough pieces until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  8. Drain them on paper towels and dust generously with powdered sugar.

Notes

Serve warm with coffee or hot chocolate. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to two days.
