Soy sauce eggs are a simple yet flavorful dish that combines eggs with a rich soy sauce marinade, creating a delightful umami experience.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large eggs
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (adjust to taste)
  • Green onions (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Boil the eggs by bringing a medium-sized pot of water to a rolling boil. Add the eggs gently, ensuring they don’t crack, and cook for about 6-7 minutes for a perfectly soft yolk.
  2. Cool the eggs in a bowl of ice water for about 5 minutes then peel away the shells.
  3. Prepare the marinade by whisking together soy sauce, water, sesame oil, and sugar in a bowl. Adjust sweetness to preference.
  4. Marinate the peeled eggs in the soy sauce marinade for at least 10 minutes; longer if possible for enhanced flavor.
  5. Garnish and serve by slicing the eggs in half and sprinkling chopped green onions and sesame seeds on top.

Notes

For best results, use the freshest eggs possible and consider marinating the eggs overnight to deepen the flavor.
