  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup salted caramel sauce
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Creaming together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl. Gradually add this to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the flour. Mix until just combined.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gradually add in the powdered sugar and continue to whip until stiff peaks form.
  8. Place one cake layer on a serving platter and spread a layer of salted caramel sauce over the top. Add a layer of whipped cream over the caramel.
  9. Repeat the process with the second cake layer, adding more salted caramel and whipped cream.
  10. Drizzle additional salted caramel on top and sprinkle with sea salt before serving.
