A rich, moist indulgent chocolate cake that’s perfect for birthdays and celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Combine the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry mixture and beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  4. Incorporate the boiling water into the batter until smooth.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove and let cool completely on wire racks.

Notes

For added flavor, consider adding espresso powder or folding in chocolate chips or nuts. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
