A comforting dish of crispy fried cube steaks topped with a rich and creamy country gravy.

Ingredients

  • 4 cube steaks
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for gravy)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (for gravy)
  • Salt to taste (for gravy)

Instructions

  1. Season the cube steaks with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  2. Dredge the seasoned cube steaks in 1 cup of all-purpose flour.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Fry the coated steaks for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  5. Make the gravy by adding 1/4 cup of flour to the skillet with remaining oil and drippings.
  6. Whisk in 2 cups of milk, black pepper, and salt until the gravy thickens.
  7. Serve the chicken fried steak topped with the country gravy.

Notes

Pairs wonderfully with mashed potatoes and green beans. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
