Classic Angel Food Cake

A light and airy treat that melts in your mouth, perfect for any gathering or cozy afternoon at home.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cake flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups egg whites (about 1012 whites)
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Sift together the cake flour, half of the sugar, and the salt.
  3. Beat the egg whites until they’re frothy.
  4. Add the cream of tartar to the egg whites and continue beating until soft peaks form.
  5. Gradually add the remaining sugar to the egg whites, beating until stiff peaks form.
  6. Gently fold in the vanilla and almond extracts along with the sifted flour mixture.
  7. Pour the batter into an ungreased tube pan, spreading it evenly.
  8. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until golden and springs back when touched.
  9. Invert the cake to cool before carefully removing it and serve as desired.

Notes

Store any leftover cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to a week. Wrap tightly for freezing up to 3 months.
