A simple and delicious recipe for vibrant green beans with a tangy-sweet sauce, inspired by classic Chinese buffet flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound green beans, trimmed
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Blanch the green beans: Bring a pot of water to a rolling boil. Add the trimmed green beans and blanch for about 3 minutes until they attain a bright green color and a tender-crisp texture. Drain and set aside.
  2. Sauté aromatics: In a large skillet, add the sesame oil and heat over medium heat. Once the oil glistens, toss in the minced garlic and ginger. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Mix the sauce: Add the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, and rice vinegar to the skillet. Stir to combine, letting flavors meld together.
  4. Combine the green beans: Add the drained green beans to the skillet. Toss in the sauce, ensuring every bean is coated. Continue cooking for 2-3 minutes until heated through.
  5. Garnish and serve: Remove from heat and garnish with sesame seeds. Serve immediately.

Notes

For a crunchy texture, consider adding toasted walnuts or slivered almonds. Adjust the sauce ingredients to your taste.
