Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 large yellow onion, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Instructions

  1. Gather all ingredients and thinly slice the beef against the grain.
  2. In a bowl, combine the beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and cornstarch. Mix thoroughly and let marinate for 10 minutes.
  3. Heat a wok or large skillet over high heat and add vegetable oil.
  4. Sauté the sliced onions until caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Push the onions aside and add garlic to the empty space, sauté for 30 seconds.
  6. Add the marinated beef in a single layer and cook without stirring for 1-2 minutes.
  7. Combine the beef with onions and pour in sesame oil. Cook for another 3-4 minutes.
  8. Serve immediately over rice or noodles.

Notes

For best flavor, marinate the beef for up to an hour. Cook in batches if you have a lot of beef to prevent steaming.
