A simple yet flavorful Shawarma Chicken recipe that brings Middle Eastern street food flavors into your home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 chicken thighs, boneless and skinless
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Pita bread or wraps for serving
  • Fresh vegetables (like lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers) for serving
  • Sauce (like tahini or garlic sauce) for serving

Instructions

  1. Create the Flavorful Marinade: In a bowl, mix olive oil, minced garlic, ground cumin, ground coriander, smoked paprika, ground turmeric, salt, black pepper, and lemon juice to create a luscious marinade.
  2. Coat the Chicken: Add the chicken thighs into the bowl, ensuring they are well coated with the aromatic marinade. Cover the bowl and let the chicken marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or even better, overnight to deepen those flavors.
  3. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for the roasting magic.
  4. Roast the Chicken: Place the marinated chicken on a baking sheet. Roast for about 25-30 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through and has a beautiful char on the outside.
  5. Rest and Slice: Remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes. This step is essential to keep the juices locked in before you slice it into delightful strips.
  6. Assemble the Perfect Wrap: Now comes the fun part! Serve the sliced chicken in warm pita bread or wraps, adding fresh vegetables and your choice of sauce. Enjoy your homemade shawarma experience!

Notes

Marinate overnight for more intense flavors. Experiment with spices to suit your taste.
