A light and airy angel food cake topped with sweet cherries and whipped cream, perfect for summer gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 box angel food cake mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups cherries (fresh or canned, pitted and halved)
  • Whipped cream or whipped topping
  • Sugar (to taste)
  • Optional toppings (chocolate drizzle, citrus zest, nuts)
  • Vanilla ice cream (for serving)
  • Fresh fruit (for serving)
  • Light Riesling (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven according to the angel food cake mix instructions.
  2. Prepare the angel food cake mix as directed, using water.
  3. Pour the batter into a tube pan and bake until springy and golden.
  4. Remove from the oven and let it cool upside down.
  5. Once cooled, gently run a knife around the edges and remove the cake from the pan.
  6. Combine the cherries with sugar if they’re too tart.
  7. Generously top the cooled cake with whipped cream.
  8. Garnish with prepared cherries and optional toppings.
  9. Serve slices alongside a scoop of vanilla ice cream and fresh fruit.
  10. Enjoy with a glass of light Riesling.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Add whipped cream fresh each time you serve.
