A comforting and nostalgic cheesy potato casserole that layers creamy potatoes with rich cheddar and a hint of garlic and onion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds of potatoes, peeled and sliced
  • 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup of sour cream
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 1/4 cup of butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup of breadcrumbs (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix the sliced potatoes, sour cream, milk, melted butter, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Layer half of the potato mixture in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  4. Sprinkle half of the cheddar cheese over the potato layer.
  5. Add the remaining potato mixture on top.
  6. Finish with the remaining cheese on top.
  7. Sprinkle breadcrumbs on top, if using.
  8. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, until golden and bubbly.
  10. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For creamier potatoes, avoid overcooking them before adding to the casserole. Use store-bought shredded potatoes to cut prep time.
