A whimsical blend of rich chocolate, gooey caramel, and a pinch of flaky sea salt, these cookies are perfect for sharing or indulging solo.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp milk (optional, if dough is too thick)
  • 12 soft caramel candies (or caramel squares)
  • ½ cup chocolate chips (optional)
  • Flaky sea salt for topping

Instructions

  1. Whisk the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until combined.
  2. Cream the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until creamy and light.
  3. Incorporate the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, mixing until smooth.
  4. Combine the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients until a thick dough forms.
  5. Adjust the consistency with 1 tablespoon of milk if the dough is crumbly.
  6. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for 20–30 minutes.
  7. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a baking sheet.
  8. Shape the cookies by flattening a tablespoon of dough and wrapping it around a caramel candy.
  9. Space out the cookie balls on the baking sheet.
  10. Bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are set and centers look slightly soft.
  11. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt immediately after baking.
  12. Cool on the pan for 10 minutes before handling.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to a week or freeze for up to three months.
