Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg (beaten)
  • Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)
  • Dipping sauces (optional)

Instructions

  1. Activate your yeast by combining warm water, sugar, and yeast, and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Create the dough by adding flour and salt to the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  3. Let it rise in a greased bowl for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  5. Boil 10 cups of water and the baking soda in a large pot.
  6. Shape the dough by dividing it into small pieces and rolling each one into a ball.
  7. Boil each ball in the baking soda water for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Brush each pretzel bite with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces.
