Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 batch of brownie batter (prepared from box or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking pan.
  2. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until well blended.
  3. Combine the melted butter with brown sugar, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  4. Beat in the large egg until well combined.
  5. Pour your whisked dry ingredients into the wet mixture. Stir until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips, evenly distributing throughout the dough.
  7. Spread half of the cookie dough evenly into the prepared pan.
  8. Pour your brownie batter over the cookie layer and spread it out evenly.
  9. Spoon dollops of the remaining cookie dough over the brownie layer, leaving space for expansion.
  10. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few crumbs.
  11. Allow the brookies to cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares.

Notes

Add nuts for extra crunch or swap chocolate chips for butterscotch or peanut butter chips for variation.
