Experience the rich, savory taste of homemade Birria Tacos, made with slow-cooked beef and a blend of spices.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs beef chuck roast
  • 2 lbs beef short ribs
  • 4 dried guajillo chiles
  • 3 dried ancho chiles
  • 1 onion
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Corn tortillas
  • Chopped cilantro
  • Lime wedges
  • Sliced onion

Instructions

  1. Toast the dried chiles in a pan until fragrant, then soak them in hot water for 15 minutes.
  2. Blend the soaked chiles with onion, garlic, cumin, oregano, and some beef broth until smooth.
  3. Season the beef with salt and pepper, then sear in a pot.
  4. Add the blended sauce and remaining broth to the pot.
  5. Cover and simmer for about 120-180 minutes until the meat is tender.
  6. Shred the beef and serve in corn tortillas topped with chopped cilantro, diced onions, and a squeeze of lime.

Notes

Check the seasoning to taste and adjust as needed. Enjoy with a side of Mexican rice and beans.
