A comforting and hearty baked ziti, layered with cheese and flavored with marinara and sautéed aromatics, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • Ziti pasta
  • Marinara sauce
  • Ricotta cheese
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Ground beef or sausage (optional)
  • Garlic
  • Onion
  • Olive oil
  • Basil
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
  3. Sauté chopped onion and garlic in olive oil until soft.
  4. Add ground beef or sausage, if using, and cook until browned.
  5. Stir in marinara sauce and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
  6. Mix the cooked ziti with ricotta cheese, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  7. Layer half of the ziti mixture, half of the meat sauce, and half of the mozzarella cheese in a baking dish. Repeat layers.
  8. Top with Parmesan cheese.
  9. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
  11. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve with a crisp side salad and garlic bread for the perfect meal. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 4 days in the fridge or frozen for up to 3 months.
