A comforting layered dish of creamy Yukon Gold potatoes, savory ham, and melted cheddar, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Yukon Gold potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups cooked ham, diced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a large baking dish with butter.
  2. Sauté the diced onions in a skillet over medium heat until golden brown (about 5 minutes).
  3. Stir in the flour and cook for one minute; gradually whisk in heavy cream and milk until the mixture thickens (about 3 minutes).
  4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish, followed by half of the ham and half of the creamy sauce.
  5. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, ham, and creamy sauce.
  6. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top, cover with foil, and bake for 30 minutes.
  7. Remove foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

For variations, try adding sautéed spinach or using different cheese types. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
