A classic Italian dessert featuring layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and creamy mascarpone, finished with cocoa powder.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 3 large eggs, separated
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 8 oz mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 24 ladyfingers
  • Cocoa powder for dusting

Instructions

  1. Whisk the egg yolks and sugar together until pale and fluffy.
  2. Add the mascarpone cheese and mix until smooth.
  3. Whip the heavy cream to stiff peaks in another bowl.
  4. Fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until combined.
  5. Pour the cooled coffee into a shallow dish.
  6. Dip each ladyfinger quickly in the coffee and layer them in a serving dish.
  7. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
  8. Repeat the layers with the remaining ladyfingers and mascarpone mixture.
  9. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  10. Dust the top with cocoa powder before serving.

Notes

For a twist, consider adding coffee liqueur or fresh fruit between layers.
