Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup fruit jam (your choice)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Activate Your Yeast: In a bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and a pinch of sugar. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Combine Mixtures: Add the yeast mixture, milk, egg, and melted butter to the flour mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the Dough: Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-10 minutes until smooth.
  5. Let It Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat Your Oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Roll and Spread: Roll out the dough into a rectangle and spread your jam evenly on top.
  8. Shape Your Dough: Fold the dough in half and place it on a greased baking sheet.
  9. Dimple the Dough: Create dimples with your fingers all over the dough and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  10. Bake to Perfection: Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Dust and Serve: Let cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Make sure your yeast is fresh for optimal rising. You can substitute milk with almond or coconut milk for dairy-free.
