An elevated grilled cheese sandwich featuring creamy Gouda, roasted mushrooms, and caramelized onions for a gourmet experience.

Ingredients

  • 2 slices of bread
  • 2 slices of Gouda cheese
  • 1 cup of sliced mushrooms
  • 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Toss together the sliced mushrooms and onion with olive oil, salt, and pepper, then spread them on a baking sheet.
  3. Butter one side of each slice of bread.
  4. Heat a skillet over medium heat and place one slice of bread, butter side down.
  5. Add one slice of Gouda cheese, followed by the roasted mushrooms and onions, and top with another slice of Gouda.
  6. Place the second slice of bread on top, butter side up.
  7. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until the bottom is golden brown, then flip the sandwich to cook the other side.
  8. Remove the sandwich from the skillet, slice, and serve warm.

Notes

Pairs beautifully with a bowl of tomato soup or a fresh salad.
