Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup vanilla custard
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a bowl, combine warm milk and yeast; let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Prepare the dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Combine wet and dry ingredients: Add the yeast mixture, eggs, and softened butter to the dry ingredients; mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough: Knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Let the dough rise: Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  6. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Roll out the dough: Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle.
  8. Spread the custard: Spread the vanilla custard over the dough and sprinkle chocolate chips on top.
  9. Roll the dough: Roll up the dough tightly and slice into pieces.
  10. Second rise: Place in a greased baking dish and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  11. Bake to perfection: Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  12. Allow to cool: Allow to cool slightly before serving.
