Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cheddar cheese (shredded)
  • 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese (shredded)
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • Coarse sea salt (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, active dry yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix the dough: Add all-purpose flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Knead until smooth.
  3. Let it rise: Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 60 minutes.
  4. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  5. Shape the dough: Divide it into pieces and flatten each out.
  6. Stuff with cheese: Place shredded cheddar and mozzarella in the center and fold over to seal.
  7. Boil for the perfect texture: Boil each pretzel in water mixed with baking soda for 30 seconds.
  8. Brush and sprinkle: Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  9. Bake to perfection: Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Enjoy warm: Serve them fresh from the oven!

Notes
